Course Description:

Improve reading and vocabulary for comprehending informational texts such as: instructions, memos and forms, websites, workplace documents, ads, magazines, newspapers and educational materials

Objectives:

1. Learn new words and vocabulary skills to understand the structure of words, their meaning in context, and relationships between words to improve understanding of written English.

2. Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text.

3. Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.

4. Describe the overall structure (e.g., chronology, comparison, cause/effect, problem/solution) of events, ideas, concepts, or information in in a text of part of a text.

5. Interpret information presented visually in maps, photographs, charts, graphs, diagrams and time lines.

6. Explain how the author uses reasons and evidence to support particular points in a text.
